Our Volunteers
Our volunteers are a diverse group of individuals dedicated in helping those experiencing homelessness and food insecurity in our community. Through volunteering, they also build relationships with our clients.
Imperial Beach Neighborhood Center offers several volunteering opportunities including:
- Neighborhood Food Pantry (program of our Agency Partner Feeding San Diego) operates Monday through Thursday, 9AM - 12Noon in the basement of the main building. The Official Opening of the Neighborhood Food Pantry hosted by YMCA Camp Surf (located at 180 Carnation Avenue, Imperial Beach, CA 91932) will be on Tuesday, June 9th, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon. Then every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon. PLEASE NOTE: NO ENTRANCE USING YMCA CAMP SURF GATE!!!
- Monthly Drive Thru Mass Food Distribution Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) of our Agency Partner Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is now a Drive Thru Mass Food Distribution on the Third Thursday of the month from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at new host site The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Imperial Beach Ward located at 1515 Elder Avenue, San Diego, CA 92154.
- Community Garden has been halted due to scheduled demolition of the IB Neighborhood Center effective June 2026. Further updates TBA following the launch of the New IB Neighborhood Center in January 2028.
- Saturday Shower Program has been halted due to scheduled demolition of the IB Neighborhood Center effective June 2026. Further updates TBA following the launch of the New IB Neighborhood Center in January 2028.

our Food Pantry, new site location to be announced. Volunteers should park on 180 Carnation Avenue, Imperial Beach, near the side gate. No entrance into YMCA Camp Surf. Volunteers are asked to sort food, assist in set up and clean up, sign in clients, and assist them in shopping for groc
Feeding San Diego, our Agency Partner, provides for
our Food Pantry, new site location to be announced. Volunteers should park on 180 Carnation Avenue, Imperial Beach, near the side gate. No entrance into YMCA Camp Surf. Volunteers check in at 7:30 am in the parking lot. Volunteers sign in and are instructed to separate food, pre-bag and help distribute. Drive Thru Food is distributed from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Volunteers are asked to stay on-site until all food is bagged. General clean-up is also expected.
