Nurturing hope, empowering people to create a community in action. Through all its efforts, the Center seeks to make Imperial Beach a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.

Addressing the issues of homelessness and food insecurity in Imperial Beach and surrounding areas:

On average, 2,500 individuals per month receive food.
Homegrown produce supplements our daily food pantry shelves.
Over 100 housing challenged individuals served through the Imperial Beach Neighborhood Center's Saturday program offering showers, clothing, hygiene kits, and sack lunches.

The concept of the Center emerged from the outreach programs of the Imperial Beach United Methodist Church that was incorporated in 1948. With a diminishing membership, the church closed in 2018. The concept of the Center emerged from the outreach programs of the Imperial Beach United Methodist Church that was incorporated in 1948. With a diminishing membership, the church closed in 2018. John Griffin-Atil who served as pastor of the church from 1993-99, and 2013-2018, founded the nonprofit organization, The Imperial Beach Neighborhood Center with the blessing of the California-Pacific Conference of The United Methodist Church. Today, the Imperial Beach Neighborhood Center attends to the South Bay beach community by providing the necessary services to those in need while also focusing on the empowerment and well-being of the community.

Studio One renditions of the future buildings. The current buildings at 455 Palm Avenue are scheduled for demolition by June 1, 2026, to make way for a 50‑unit low‑income senior housing and new IB Neighborhood Center in the back of the property.

Imperial Beach Neighborhood Center is primarily funded through individual donations. The Center also receives private grants to help with the purchase of food. All donations to IBNC are tax-deductible. Upon request, IBNC provides forms verifying donations for IRS purposes.
The Imperial Beach Neighborhood Center is a 501(C)(3) Nonprofit Organization.

Easiest way to send donations to the Center is through Amazon.
Donations may be left on the porch of the back office. The Center Office is the single-story white building located at the back of the property.
We love our community, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
